System Maintenance Log

Stuffs related to system maintenance. Just keeping a note in case they stab me in the future.

Key changes to system services / configs

> NetworkManager-wait-online is taking very long as suggested by systemd-analyze blame. This service is now disabled:

    sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

Bluetooth keyboard:

/etc/bluetooth/main.conf
FastConnectable = true

/etc/tlp.conf
USB_AUTOSUSPEND=0

/etc/default/grub
# append

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="usbcore.autosuspend=-1 btusb.enable_autosuspend=0"
# then grub-mkconfig .... and reboot

Moderation and Blocks

IP:     8.134.117.249
Host:   xhh.club
Scope:  Global
Audit: CN based scrapper; monitizing free public content(yikes).
        re-distribution without attribution; heavy censorship as they
        are ICP licensed. Though I'm a copy-leftist regarding my
        content,there is a certain portion of my posts under CC SA,
        which they fail to obey the "SA" part. Plus, they are polling a
        certain page very frequently, which I think is a bug in their
        job queue.

Scope:  fediverse (vnil.de)
Audit: They allow child porn, that's a red line we never cross!

Host:   hunk.city
Scope:  fediverse (vnil.de)
Audit: (activityPub) they allow some actors to tag *all* in the status.
        Actively causing DDoS across the fediverse in an earlier
        incident. This script kiddo behaviour is allowed by the admins
        (if not done by the admins).

Host:   threads.net
Scope:  fediverse (vnil.de)
Audit: Yeah, instagram is joining the fediverse. While hyped by some,
        they are bringing their big tech privacy atrocity into the
        decentralized network. Another reason to block them is that they
        seem to require federated servers to open their public timelines
        to un-authorized users. While this is fine in most cases
        (because these posts are public on the fediverse anyways), it's
        not the case for a Chinese speaking community due to the risk of
        CN surveillance.

IPs:    AS20473
Host:   vultr.com
Scope:  [NONE]
Audit: [NO ACTION TAKEN] In a recent fiasco, it was pointed out that
        vultr (as cloud service provider) altered their ToS to grant
        vultr "non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free,
        fully paid-up wordwide license" to use user content. Vultr
        responsed that the ToS was interpreted out of context, and
        modified their ToS for clarification [1]. Therefore no action
        will be taken against vultr, but it's worth the record here.
